Notes
1981 book:
Mary had a fine business education, and was raised a member of the Religious Society
of Friends. She was a private secretary to Horace A. Beale, the president of
Parkesburg Iron Co. As such, she was in close touch with the iron industry and had a
fine general knowledge of the trade. In the matters relating to the erection of the new
tube mill, she took great interest, handling the correspondence and meeting with many
of the men who were connected with the enterprise. Mary's judgment on business was
considered excellent, and on this account she was entrusted with many matters of
importance. Mary did not marry.
Funeral services were held on Apr. 5, 1909. As a tribute to her memory, the
iron and tube mills at Parkesburg Iron Co. were shut down during the services.
