A sweet and gentle man left us on September 3, 1992, Leland Scowcroft Swaner.

He was born May 15, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Paula Margetts on May 
22, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lee was the only son of Leland Badley and June 
Scowcroft Swaner. He attended Wasatch School, Stewart Training School and East 
High. He attended the U. of U., where he was affiliated with Sigma Chi for two years. 
He graduated from Stanford University in 1941. He was an Eagle Scout and 
worked for Deseret Livestock Ranch, Forestry Service, John Scowcroft & Sons Co. 
and the Tracy Loan & Trust Co. He established Redwood Investment Co. in 1948, 
which was pioneering in the area of Industrial Parks in the United States. He became 
an investor, land developer, farmer and rancher. During his life he devoted time and 
energy to many community projects. He was former Director of Utah Museum of 
Natural History, Utah Angus Assoc., Pres., V.P. and Director of Cottonwood Club; 
Pres., Alta Club and North Fork Club. Director of Brighton North Point Irrigation Co.; 
New State Duck Club; Honorary Col. Utah National Guard, Director First Interstate 
Bank; Trustee St. Mark's Hospital; Chairman and member of Salt Lake City Planning 
Commission; Chairman of State Wildlife Resources Board; Advisory Committee U.S. 
Bureau of Land Management; Director, Norman F. Anderson Award Fund; Director, 
Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce; member of Greater Salt Lake Board; Water 
Resources Board Summit County; Director of John Scowcroft and Company; Trustee 
Rowland Hall St. Mark's School Board; member and Vestry, All Saints Episcopal 
Church; Pres. and V.P. and Secretary Salt Lake Rotary Club; Praetor of Sigma Chi 
Fraternity; Advisory Board U. of U. Business School; member of U. of U. Behavioral 
Science Board; Treasurer of State of Utah Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed his 
association at the Alta Club. He earned his rating in single and multi engines and 
helicopter piloting.He loved the out of doors, skiing; fishing at the North Fork Club. He 
was an avid traveler, adventurer, and had been around the world. He had done 
extensive trekking and hunting. He loved the seasons of the year, family life and 
worshiping at All Saints Church.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; two sons and one daughter, Leland S., Jr. and wife 
Diana Swaner, Park City, Utah; Sumner M. and wife Teri Swaner, Paula and husband 
Joe Sargetakis, both Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and one sister, June and 
husband Charles Gates, Denver, Colo.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., September 8, 1992 at All Saints 
Episcopal Church, 1710 South Foothill Drive. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn 
Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Drive on Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. with evening 
prayer service at 7 p.m. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers 
family suggests contributions may be made to Utah Museum of Natural History.
