Naomi C. "Dickie" Clendenon, 95, of Newport, died of age related causes April 5, 
2005. She was born Aug. 22, 1909 in Sayre, Okla. to Jessie D. and Anna M. Sutter 
Simmons (dau of Andrew J Sutter and Magdalena Mary Klopfenstein).

She moved to San Francisco from Phoenix, Ariz. and joined the Salvation Army at the 
age 18, and graduated from the Salvation Army Training College, becoming a 
Salvation Army Officer. She married one of her fellow students, Roland Hill, and they 
had two children and divorced after 12 years of marriage. She moved to San Diego 
with her children and worked in the airplant during World War II and met and married 
Jack Clendenon in Yuma, Ariz. on June 12, 1943. The family moved to El Cajon, Calif. 
where they lived for 40 years.

She was involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army and senior volunteer 
affairs. For 20 years she was employed in food service for the El Cajon School District, 
retiring in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1986; son, Carl in 1985; son, Billy 
Hill; and daughter, Eula Mae Baldan.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Alan Baldan of California, Wayne Baldan of 
California, Linda Henderson of Oregon, Sandy Patterson of Oregon, Shelley Sidley of 
California, Todd Clendenon of California, Scott Hill of Oregon; great-grandchildren, 
Chris Patterson, Sara Shields, Shonna Howry, Micah Escalante, Jessica Baldan, 
Melisa Baldan; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 
9. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at OceanView Assisted Living in 
Newport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Senior Center.
