Services for former Grossmont College and United States International University 
athletic coach Carl Clendenon, 40, of Redding, Calif., were Wednesday in Redding. 
He was killed April 12 in an auto accident in Redding. Cremation was planned by Allen 
and Dahl Funeral Home in Redding, with ashes to be scattered over the Shasta 
Mountains. 

Mr. Clendenon coached football at Grossmont College in 1972, 1973 and 1984. He 
was born in San Diego, graduated from Granite Hills High School and attended 
Grossmont College, where he was athlete of the year in 1963. He received a degree in 
business administration from the California Polytechnical University at Pomona. He left 
Grossmont College in 1974 to coach at USIU. He then held coaching jobs at San 
Francisco State, St. Mary's College and Milligan University in Decatur, Ill., before ret 
urning to Grossmont College last year. He was to take over the head coaching job at 
Shasta Junior College this fall. 

Survivors include a daughter, Shelley, and a son, Todd, both of Garden Grove; his 
parents, Jack and Naomi, of Central Valley, Calif; and a stepbrother, Billy Hill of
