CHAPEL HILL -- Frank Crittenden- De Cazenove was born in Flushing, NY, March 11, 
1916, and raised in Ridgewood, NJ. He died of compli- cations of lung cancer Friday, 
Sep- tember 13, 2002. 

"Crit" joined the US Army during World War II. He served three and a half years in 
Northern Africa and, as a roconnaissance officer, led the first troops through Rome, 
Italy. He retired as a Major in the First Armored Division at the end of the war. 

His military career trained him well for his life's work in the textile industry. He worked 
for Collins & Aikman Corp. in New York City and Roxboro, NC. He retired in 1982 as 
Vice-President of the Cavel Divi- sion. 

Frank was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Rockwell Crittenden. 

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Rockwell Crittenden of New York City; his 
son, Louis Deca- zenove Crittenden and wife Jenny McClamroch Crittenden of Chapel 
Hill; grandchildren, Joel Crittenden and wife Jayna Crittenden and Sam Crittenden, all 
of Wilmington, NC, Jeff Crittenden of Buies Creek, NC; and brothers, G. B. Lamar 
Critten- den of Boston, MA, and Thomas Crittenden of Virginia Beach, VA. 

A celebration of his life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Septem- ber 17, at the 
Chapel Hill Country Club.
