25 Nov 1953 Springfield Union: "The body of Prof. Greenough Thayer Richards son of
a Nobel Prize winner, was found near here today on the Virginian Railway tracks.
Apparently he had been struck by a train. The 48-year-old professor, a brother-in-law
of James B. Conant, who is U.S. High Commissioner to Germany, had been a member
of the Virginia Tech staff since 1941. He taught architecture. His body was found by a
railway section hand. It was clad in pajamas, trousers, and a top coat."
