practiced under firm name of Rand and Patton. 1887, elected pres of Mortgage Trust
Co of Pa., resigned 1896, ill health. 1897 became Prof of Law at UPenn until 1911.
member of Common Council for 10th Ward 1881-5. 1904, mbr Board of Education.
Author, with son Henry B Patton (from 1st marr) of "Patton's Practice," an
authoritative treatise on replevin. First wife Mary Blackiston, had 2 sons, 3 dtrs

per 1918 Ann Rpt of Carnegie Fdn for Advancement of Educ, he was chosen to fill the
professorship of Practice at the law school. "Many problems confronted him in
establishing this new course, but he successfully surmounted them, and among the
different legal books of which he was the author was a standard work on 'Practice.'
He retired in 1912 after a service of fifteen years. The Carnegie Foundation granted
Professor Patton a retiring allownce in September, 1912."
