Amelia DeGaetani Newsom, 67, of Richmond, a retired legal secretary, went to be with 
her Lord on March 4, 2011 with all of her family by her side after bravely fighting an 
incurable liver disease since December 2005. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Doris DeGaetani; and one brother, 
Gary DeGaetani. 

She is survived by her loving husband of over 48 years, N. Kendall Newsom; their 
three children, N. Kendall Newsom Jr. (Pam), Linda D. Newsom (Lori) and Kevin W. 
Newsom (Michelle); grandchildren, Ashley, Heather, Jake, Nathaniel, Alexander, 
Christina and Zack; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn, Yvonne and Etta 
(Hector); brother, Franklin (Susan); brother-in-law, Thomas (Nancy); and dear 
childhood friend, Nancy McClenny, who cared for her frequently in her last months. 

She was a devoted Christian, who was an active member at Ridge Baptist Church in 
Richmond until she retired, and then at Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville where she 
and her husband and fishing partner spent their retirement years at the “Rivah.” 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zoar Baptist Church, 17097 General 
Puller Hwy., Deltaville, VA 23043. Services will be held at Zoar Baptist Church in 
Deltaville on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. A celebration of her life will immediately 
follow in the fellowship hall.
