Harold M. ‘Reds' Carodiskey
Danville man oldest Montour County veteran
Harold M. "Reds" Carodiskey, 94, formerly of 625 E. Market St., Danville, and since
Sept. 30, 2011, a guest of Maria Joseph Manor, passed away peacefully on Christmas
Eve, Dec. 24, 2012, at Emmanuel Nursing Center, where he had been a patient since
Oct. 17. His death severed a wonderful marriage of 67 years to the former Barbara
Doan of Berwick, celebrated on Nov. 10, 2012.
Harold was born Dec. 2, 1918, to Harry F. and Mary E. (Miller) Carodiskey. He
graduated from Danville High School with the Class of 1936 and was known for his
pole vaulting and diving while a student.
He attained the rank of master sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II and
served in the U.S. and England for two-and-a-half years with the Hq. Det., 384th
Bomb group (H) of the 8th Air Force. He was very proud of his service and of being
the oldest Montour County veteran.
Mr. Carodiskey worked in the purchasing and accounting offices of Kennedy Van
Saun, retiring in 1983 after 45 years.
He was a devoted member of St. Paul's Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the
American Legion, Post 40, as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Danville Elks Club and Washies Fire Company.
In addition to his wife (and favorite dancing partner), Harold is survived by two
daughters: Janis Williams of Danville and Lynne Carodiskey of West Mifflin, as well as
a granddaughter in-law, Dee Williams, and his pride and joy, grandson Chad Williams
of Silver Spring, Md., who he affectionately called "my little friend."
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A sister, Margaret, and
brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Brady Funeral Home,
320 Church St., Danville, with the Rev. Edmund Minnich, retired, officiating. The
burial will follow in the Episcopal Cemetery in Danville. Friends may call at the funeral
home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services.
The family will provide flowers. Contributions in Harold's memory may be made to St.
Paul's United Methodist Church, Pine and East Mahoning streets, Danville, PA 17821
or to Maria Joseph Manor, 875 Montour Blvd., Danville, PA 17821.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brady Funeral Home of Danville.
