William Latimer Maule Sr., of Montoursville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, 
at the Valley View Nursing Center. He was born Aug. 1, 1921, to James W. Maule and 
Sara Miller Maule in Williamsport.

Bill graduated from the Williamsport High School in 1939. His college education 
started at Dickenson Junior College (now Lycoming), where he graduated in 1941. He 
received a B.S. degree at Lock Haven State College (now Lock Haven University) in 
1943. He received his master's degree at Bucknell University, where he was a member 
of Kappa Phi Kappa Fraternity.

Bill entered the army in 1943, where he became a lieutenant in the Army Engineers. 
Soon after he joined the army, he married Elizabeth Carter Harrison on June 27, 1943. 
They met when they were freshman in college and were married in Mulberry Methodist 
Church.

Mr. Maule taught 17 years at Curtin Junior High School. He then went to 
Montoursville, where he was a teacher and later became principal of Montoursville 
Area High School. He retired in 1978 after 35 years as an educator. Bill loved 
teaching and working with the students who all meant a lot to him. When he would 
see a former student, he was very happy, proud and honored to talk with them.

Bill Maule was a lifelong accomplished beekeeper from the time he was in seventh 
grade, having learned the art of the apiary from his father. Bill had several articles 
published in the beekeeper's magazine "Gleanings in Bee Culture." As a young man, 
he had an "honor pay" honey stand along Fourth Street by the family farm in 
Newberry. He enjoyed giving his friends a jar of honey with his label.

He had been a Mason for nearly 70 years for the Masonic Lodge 106, The Baldwin 
Commandery, Williamsport Consistory and Irem Temple. He was past president of the 
Williamsport Shrine Club. He was always an American Red Cross blood donor having 
attained the Gallon Club. Bill enjoyed and was a member of the Red Fox Hunting Club.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers-in-law, Robert E. Kane Sr.; and Allan 
Dresner and several cousins.

Mr. Maule is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth; daughter, Elizabeth Ann 
Gleason and her husband, Dr. James Gleason, of Ohio; two sons, William L. Maule Jr. 
and his wife, Patricia, of Montoursville and James H. Maule and his wife, Donna, of 
Williamsport. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Kane and sister-in-law, Barbara 
Dresner.

There are six grandchildren, Kristie Maule, William L. Maule III and wife Nicole, Cara 
Kranz and husband Matthew, Annie Maule Wolf and husband, Tom, Ashley Sarver and 
Codey J. Kaiser.

There are six great-grandchildren, Savanna, Gabriella, Madelyn, Anthony, Lydia and 
William IV. There are also four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Nieces are Cora Lynn Jordan, Rebecca Earnest, Sally Stempel, Jamie Cunnard, Kathie 
Kane and nephews, Robert E. Kane Jr., David, Thomas, Donald and Keith Dresner.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 
Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., Montoursville, with Rev. David C. 
Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad 
St., Montoursville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Montoursville Presbyterian 
Church or to the William L. Maule Scholarship Fund at Montoursville Area High 
School, c/o Daniel Taormina, 100 Arch St., Montoursville, PA 17754.
