HEADLINE: Elma Maule, 93, retired teacher

BODY:
Elma Kirk Maule, 93, a resident of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 
Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, died there Tuesday morning after a brief illness.

She formerly lived at 137 Solanco Road, Quarryville. 

A teacher for 30 years, Mrs. Maule had taught fifth grade at Bart-Colerain Elementary 
School, retiring in 1972. She also taught at Fairmount School, Quarryville; fifth grade 
at Friends School, Baltimore; math and history at Oxford Jnior High School; and all 
grades at Amity, a one-room school.

Upon her retirement, she was honored with a "This Is Your Life" program by Solanco 
School District.

An Oxford High School graduate, she graduated summa cum laude from Temple 
University.

Mrs. Maule was a member of Farm Women Society 15, Kirkwood, which she had 
served as secretary and president.

She also belonged to Colerain Literary Society, Colerain Grange 1667 and Octorara 
Farmers Club.

A past president, she was active in Quarryville Women's Christian Temperance Union.

She was instrumental in organizing the Solanco Fair.

Mrs. Maule was a life member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and 
National Education Association.

She was a lifelong member of Oxford Friends Meeting, including the Quarterly and 
Annual meetings. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, clerk of ministry and 
council committee at the church.

Born in Rising Sun, Md., she was a daughter of the late Edwin F. Sr. and Cassandra 
Clement Kirk.

Her husband, Richard P. Maule, died in 1995.

Surviving are two sons, William R., married to Arlene Maule, and Robert E., married to 
Patricia Maule, both of Quarryville; a daughter, Barbara J., married to Luke Hollinger 
of Leola; 11 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy K. 
Paschall of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas N., and a brother, Edwin F. Kirk Jr.
