Harold William "Pete" Berwaldt, 81, of Carrollton, died Monday, Dec. 26, at Life Care 
Center nursing home of Carrollton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Immanuel Lutheran 
Church in Carrollton. Pastor Eric Swyres will officiate. Visitation will be held from 7 to 
8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in 
Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton with military services provided by Veterans of 
Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post No. 1773 of Carrollton. Memorials are 
suggested to the Harold Berwaldt Memorial Fund in care of Gibson Funeral Home, 201 
S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633

Born July 6, 1924, in Munson, Pa., he was the son of the late Leopold and Emma 
Berwaldt. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as gunner of a B24 bomber, 8th 
Air Force. After the war, he returned to school in Kansas City on the GI bill, graduating 
as an automotive body and fender man. He later began work at O'dell Chevrolet in 
Carrollton. Later he passed the examination to become a federal employee of the U.S. 
Postal Service, where he worked until his retirement Aug. 1, 1986, completing a term 
of 26 years. On Dec. 12, 1948, he married Helen Griffith, who survives of the home. 
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carrollton, serving in various 
capacities of the church.

Additional survivors include two sons, Vince Berwaldt of Marshall and John Berwaldt 
of Ponca City Okla.; one sister, Elsie Brumbaugh of Beverly Hills, Fla.,; one brother, 
Carl Berwaldt of Painesville, Ohio, and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Kieper and 
Gertrude Collard; three brothers, Henry, Marty, and Jake Berwaldt; and one grandson.
