Oscar Land, a resident at Columbine Commons Assisted Living Facility, will celebrate 
his 101st birthday on Saturday.
Land was born in Sweden but moved shortly thereafter to Windsor.
Land has had a front-row seat to the advancements and growth that his hometown of 
Windsor has undergone over the past 100 years. He recalls fond memories of being 
the first to own and drive a 1928 Ford Coupe, which was given to him by his father. In 
1931, Land celebrated his high school graduation with the other 16 people who made 
up the graduating class that year. The following year, the graduating class jumped to 
40 students. After school each day, Land said he would rush home and tend to his 
chores, which consisted of making sure the reservoirs in the oven were filled with 
water so the family would have warm water to wash with before supper.
Land farmed most of his life, working as a dairyman. He farmed outside of Timnath 
until 1972. He worked as a ranger with the Forest Service for eight years until 
retirement. Land lost his first wife and the mother of his children in 1980. He later 
married Lucile in 1982, and they shared many wonderful years together until she 
passed in 2001 at 91 years old.
