Hester (Landen) Sherman, 89, of Haynes Hill Road, a retired postmistress in Brimfield, 
died Friday at home. 

 She was the postmistress from 1943 until her retirement in 1970. 

 Born in Springfield, she moved to Brimfield in 1916, and was a 1919 graduate of the 
Hitchcock Free Academy. 

 She was a past master of the Brimfield Grange and the Worcester Southwest Pomona 
Grange, and was a member of the Massachusetts State Grange. She was also a 
member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Palmer. 

 Her husband of 71 years, George "Ben" Sherman, died in 1991. 

 She leaves four sons, George B. Jr. of Edgewater, Fla., John L., Milton H. and 
Charles W., all of Brimfield; a daughter, Grace T. Arbour, with whom she lived; two 
sisters, Lucy L. Hanna of Brimfield and May L. Peters of Nantucket; 20 grandchildren; 
37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 

 The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at the Beers and Story Funeral Home in 
Palmer, with burial in Brimfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday evening. 

 Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
