Joan Frances Stern
Resident of San Jose
 Oct. 31, 1931-Aug. 23, 2011

Joan was born to Joshua Maule and Mary Jane Dever on October 31, 1931 in San 
Bruno, Calif. She passed away peacefully at home on August 23 surrounded by family. 
She loved her birthday being on Halloween so much that she was also married on that 
date to Roland Glenn Stern in 1954. They had five children - Schon, Eric, Bret, Troy 
and Adam all of whom survive her. She is also survived by her sisters Jane and Judith 
and, brothers Josh and Jim - nine grandchildren, Steve, Beth, John, Ryan, Sara, Anna, 
Laura, Lucas and Nicholas and four great grandchildren, Mason, Madden, Marin and 
Lexi.

Joan had a great love for nature and was happiest at the beach or in the mountains. 
Seascape Beach, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe were some of her favorite places to be. 
She was an avid sports fan who particularly loved baseball. She was thrilled that the 
S.F. Giants finally won a World Series last year.

She worked for many years as a secretary for the Cupertino School District and also 
worked at Morton's Jewelers in Los Gatos. She was very involved with her children, 
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. That was what made her happy -just being with 
them. She will be missed by all.

A service will be held on Tuesday, August 30th 11:00 AM at the Sunnyvale 
Presbyterian Church, 728 W. Fremont Avenue, in Sunnyvale, CA. In lieu of flowers, a 
donation made be made to Hidden Villa in Los Altos, www.hiddenvilla.org.
