CAPTAIN GRIS BETTLE, JR., age 89, of Sugar Loaf, Key, FL, died Sept. 22, 2005. 
Born on Sept. 28, 1916 in Wayland, MA, he came to Key West 38 years ago from 
Wynnewood, PA. He was a longtime fishing captain in Key West. A lst Lt. in the Army 
Air Corps, he flew 55 missions in the European Theatre with over 3000 combat hours 
in B-24s. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Key 
West, and was a member of the Quiet Birdmen and the Key West Yacht Club. 
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Daphne; a daughter, Daphne Lewis of Seattle, 
WA; 3 sons, Griscom III, of Sarasota; William and Samuel, both of Lake Wales; 2 
sisters, Edie Gardner of Boca Grande, FL and Dorothy Deland of Naples, FL; 7 
grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, Sept. 29, 
2005 at 11 A.M. at the Church of the Latter Day Saints, Key West. Burial will be in 
Southern Keys Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the American Red Cross
