 Edward Murray "Gus" Bennett of Port Angeles died from congestive heart disease at 
age 88. 

 He was born to Harrison Murray and Mary (Gould) Bennett in the town of Opportunity. 

 Mr. Bennett served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II. 

 His wife, the former Barbara Bamford, whom he married May 19, 1945, in Missoula, 
Mont., preceded him in death in 1996. 

 In Port Angeles, Mr. Bennett was employed at Fiberboard from 1935 to 1951. He 
managed Ulin Maintenance and Supply until 1966, and then was hardware buyer for 
Swain's General Store until 1979. 

 For 53 years, he made his home at Eighth and Washington streets in Port Angeles, 
where he loved to garden. He also enjoyed sports. 

 Mr. Bennett was a member of the Presbyterian Church. 

 Survivors include sons Steve Bennett of Port Angeles and Scott Bennett of 
Kennewick; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

 Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Hanchett, Dorothea 
Smith and Eleanor Priest. 

 Services: Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., funeral in First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. 
Eighth St., Port Angeles, with the Rev. Ted Mattie officiating. Burial will be in Mount 
Angeles Memorial Park, Port Angeles. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home is in charge of 
arrangements.
