 Gary Michael Kish of Port Angeles died in Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, of 
a massive stroke following open-heart surgery. He was 72. 

 He was born in Port Angeles to Talford and Lucille (Nichols) Kish. 

 Mr. Kish played football at Port Angeles High School and holds the school record for 
the longest punt. He also established a personal best for pole vaulting at 10 feet 6 
inches. 

 Mr. Kish attended Seattle University, where he married his college sweetheart, 
Sharon Rae Headrick on April 4, 1959. 

 During the Korean War, he was a Coast Guard hospital corpsman serving on Midway 
Island and aboard Navy vessels. 

 Mr. Kish was a ranger in Olympic National Park in 1956-58, and had a lake in the 
park named for his wife -- Lake Sharon. 

 Mr. Kish owned and operated Little Mountain Corp., a cedar-shake mill in Port 
Angeles, from the early 1960s to the early 1990s. 

 After retiring from the mill, Mr. Kish was a full-time rancher who raised thoroughbred 
horses, poled white-faced Herefords and donkeys. 

 He enjoyed caring for his animals and feeding the wild creatures that visited his 65-
acre Port Angeles ranch. 

 He also worked part-time as a longshoreman in Port Angeles in the 1990s. 

 Mr. Kish and his wife were members of Circle O Square Dance Club for many years. 

 He was the last surviving member of the Clallam County Sheriff's Mounted Posse, 
which he joined in 1959. 

 He also was a member of St. Mary's Traditional Catholic Church of Tacoma, and a 
lifetime member of Elks Naval Lodge in Port Angeles. 

 Survivors, all of Port Angeles, include his wife; son and daughter-in-law Spike and 
Robyn Kish; daughters and sons-in-law Kimberly Ann and Randy Lemon, and Tamara 
Rae and Tony Barlow; his father; and brother and sister-in-law Jack and Linda Kish. 

 Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law Carole and John Jenis of Seattle; sister 
Judy White of Virginia; and nine grandchildren. 

 Services: Private services were held with the Requiem Mass celebrated by the Very 
Rev. Father Casimir Puskorius. Interment was at Ocean View Cemetery in Port 
Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
