MARY COVINGTON SMITH, 85, of Houston passed away peacefully Thursday, 
October 18, 2001. Mary was born on January 13, 1916 in Reagan, Texas and moved 
to Houston at an early age. She was a longtime resident of Bellaire and a member of 
First United Methodist Church. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, H. Adrian 
Smith and her two sisters, Betty Boykin Fowler and Jean Bolz. She is survived by her 
son, Stephen Adrian Smith; sister, Loraine Covington Smith of Chevy Chase, MD and 
nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. 
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2001 in the chapel of 
Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway with Rev. Betsy Adams officiating. 
Interment Services will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family 
request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 570127, 
Houston, TX 77257 or the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, 
Rockville, MD 20852
