William Charles Prowe, Sr., died Friday, (October 1, 1999) at Memorial Mission 
Hospital, Asheville, NC, of injuries sustained in an auto accident in June. Bill was born 
Sept. 20, 1921 in Hartford, the son of William Emil Prowe and Ida L. (Brown) Prowe 
Curtiss. He was a 1940 graduate of Simsbury High School and attended Morse 
Business College, Hartford. He served as commander of the American Legion 
Tomolonis-Hall Post 84. During World War II, he served in the Army Airforce in the 
Pacific. Whileliving in Simsbury, he was co-owner with Harry Curtiss of the Simsbury 
Garage and Studebaker Agency which was located on Hopmeadow St. and Seminary 
Rd., Simsbury. He and former wife, Barbara (Chaffee) Prowe St. Germain and children 
moved to Boca Raton, FL in 1957. He spent many years in the building industry 
involving residential, commercial, and industrial construction. After retiring, he moved 
to Canton, NC in 1987. He is survived by his children, Linda Jackson and Carol 
Stankee of Boca Raton, FL; William Prowe, Jr. of Loxahatchee, FL; and Mark Prowe 
of Glastonbury; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brother, Russell 
Johnson of Canton; and his sister, Barbara Gerbutovich of Gorham, ME. Services will 
be held December 18, 1999, 11a.m. at the Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury.
