Howard N. Nichols, 77, of 3 Tower Ave., a machinist for the Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co. 
for 35 years before retiring 12 years ago, died yesterday at the Health Havens Nursing 
Home, East Providence. He was the husband of Sylvia (Jardin) Nichols. 

 Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Edwin and Anne (Lucitt) Nichols, he moved from 
Providence to East Providence 41 years ago. 

 Mr. Nichols was a former secretary-treasurer of Local 1142, International Association 
of Machinists. 

 Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Carol Thomsen of Glocester and Judith 
Nichols of Worcester; a son, Howard N. Nichols Jr. of Perry Hall, Md.; a brother, 
Edwin Nichols of East Longmeadow, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren. 

 The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 
2555 Pawtucket Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 at Sacred Heart Church, 
Taunton Avenue. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
