Note: Edwin was killed aboard the USS Halligan in Japan on the same date that his

Rites were conducted this afternoon for attorney Benjamin Blakeman Early, 57, 
Rockford civic leader and public administrator of Winnebago County. The service was 
held at Second Congregational Church with Dr. John Gordon, Pastor, officiating. 
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Attorney Early, who belonged to many Rockford civic organizations, also was a 
member of the Chicago chapter of the Illinois Society of the Sons of the American 
Revolution. He died Saturday in the municipal sanatorium after a 10 year illness.
Surviving are his wife, Genevieve White Early ; three sons, attorney Albert Early, New 
York City and Ensign Edwin Early, serving aboard a torpedo destroyer in the South 
Pacific, and Ensign Gordon Early, recently commissioned and now home on leave 
awaiting assignment for further training at Miami Beach, Fla.; A brother attorney John 
Early, Rockford, and two sisters, Mrs. John A. Green, Rockford, and Mrs. Flora P. 
Gorney, Chicago.
