Age 84, formerly of Owosso, died Sunday morning May 12, 2013, at the Oakland, 
Calif., home of her daughter, Susan Wolf. Services were to be held in Oakland this 
week. 

 Sidney was born in Owosso Aug. 24,1928, the daughter of Henry and Margaret 
(Sidney) Steck. She graduated as valedictorian of her Owosso High School Class of 
1946. During her high school years, she participated in the Debate Club, production of 
the Spic and the Trojan Trumpet and sang with the a capella choir, the girls' glee club 
and the girls' sextet. When she was growing up, she was an active member of Christ 
Episcopal Church in Owosso. 

 She graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1950, where she had 
been a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. 

 Following graduation from U-M, she located in Chicago where she worked for the 
American Medical Association. On Sept. 11, 1954, she and Donald H. Choate were 
married in Owosso. He was a bank executive with the Northern Trust Company. The 
Choates lived in Deerfield Ill. When he died in 1994, Sidney moved to Oakland where 
her daughter Susan and husband Alan live. 

 The Choates had three daughters: Susan, Ann of Duluth, Minn., and Liz of Mesa, 
Ariz., all of whom survive her, along with seven grandchildren. Also surviving is a 
brother, John of Owosso. 

 She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Hank.
