Suzanne Allison Rogers Suzanne died at her home on Thursday, March 9, 2012. She
was a person of great kindness, beauty, and talent, and she will be deeply missed by
all who knew her. She was born in Palo Alto, California, in 1946, to James B. and
Dolly DuPrau, and she grew up in Palo Alto and in Atherton. In 1968, she graduated
with honors from Mills College and went on to get a master's degree in early childhood
education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She had a special feeling for
young children and also for disabled children; throughout her career, she worked with
them in exceptionally creative ways. She married Emery Rogers in 1976, and their
daughter, Lily Allison Rogers, was born in 1986. Motherhood was a vocation for
Suzanne. She not only devoted herself to Lily, she also brought into the family, at
separate times, two disabled children from Mexico. Lily grew up surrounded by
Suzanne's love and inspired by her imagination and her care for others. She currently
dances with the San Francisco Ballet. All her life, Suzanne was an artistshe was
talented in the graphic arts and in writing, and she had a beautiful singing voice. Her
drawings, paintings, and collages express her love of beauty and also her quirky and
sophisticated sense of humor. Her sharp eye for life's absurdities shows up in her
writing as well. Jon Carroll, of the San Francisco Chronicle, published a number of her
short pieces. She is survived by her daughter, Lily, and by her two sisters, Jeanne
DuPrau of Menlo Park and Sarah Schwartz of Mill Valley, as well as by her brother-in-
law, Andrew Schwartz, and her two nephews, Peter and Daniel. There will be a
memorial service at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Tiburon on Tuesday, March
27, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Donations may be made to PROJIMO Duranguito, which
