Roy C. Decker, 82, who lived and worked in Libby for much of his live, died 
Wednesday, Jan 5, 1994, at the Franciscan Health Care Unit in Sandpoint, Idaho. He 
was born Sept. 30, 1911, at Charlevoix, Mich., to Frank and Winifred Decker and 
moved to Libby with his family in 1916. Roy attended schools in Libby, Kalispell and 
Plains, graduating from Plains High School in 1932.

He married Miss Wilkinson in Libby on March 28, 1937. They lived in Libby, Troy and 
Plains while Roy logged and maintained a large ranch south of Libby. In 1957 they 
moved to Washington where they owned and operated a hotel in Othello. Roy also 
worked in construction in Washington and later in Idaho, retiring in 1972.

The Deckers were active members of the Church of God at each location, holding 
positions of leadership and responsibility. Roy enjoyed woodworking, traveling and 
music. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and backpacking and felt a special 
love for animals. 

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou (Gardipee) Mitchem in January 1992.

Survivors include his wife his children, a sister, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-
grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Friends may call at Vial Funeral Home from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 10 a.m. 
Saturday at the Church of God in Libby with the Rev. Gary Mize officiating. Burial will 
follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.
