Genevieve Mary Ellen Remsburg, 98, of Normal, died at 7:53 a.m. Friday (May 2, 
2008) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Genevieve was born April 16, 1910, in LaHogue, the daughter of Thomas and Eunice 
Weber Doran Jr. She married Carlton ``C.M.'' Remsburg on Oct. 19, 1940, in Piper 
City. He died Nov. 5, 1997.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue (Leigh) Bassett, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Peck; one brother, Eugene Doran; 
and one sister, Kathryn Hicks.

Genevieve graduated from Burger Country School and Community High School in Piper 
City and Illinois State Normal University. Prior to her marriage, she taught in the 
McDermott and Burger Schools in Piper City. She also was hostess, cashier and 
bookkeeper for Greyhound Post House in Gilman. After moving to Normal, she was 
hostess and cashier at the Striegel Pancake House. In 1960 she was employed as a 
ward secretary at Brokaw Hospital. She retired after 27 years in 1980. Following 
retirement she became a Brokaw Service League volunteer in patient registration for 
17 years. While still working as a secretary, she was voted Brokaw's employee of the 
years.

Genevieve did a great deal of writing stories, poems, plays and songs. She enjoyed 
writing, being in and directing plays, especially working with children. While in Piper 
City she was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society, 
P.T.A., Jr. Women's Club and Monday Night Reading Circle. After moving to Normal in 
1957, she became a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal.

Genevieve's family and church came first, then traveling, reading and writing.
