Mary Middleton Porter Bromwich, 85, a Washington native and Central High School 
graduate who lived in Europe and Canada before settling in St. Michael's, Md., in 
1996, died Feb. 13 at her home there after a stroke.

She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church choir in St. Michael's.

Mrs. Bromwich, who attended Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, performed 
on Washington and network radio in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She later studied 
opera in Florence and performed on Norwegian radio before settling in Toronto.

Her marriage to William Baxter Porter ended in divorce.

Survivors include her husband, H. Frank Bromwich of St. Michael's, and their son, 
Christopher, of Ontario; two children by her first marriage, William Middleton Porter of 
Fairfax and Marianne Porter of Sloansville, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Smith of Lynchburg; 
and four grandchildren.
