Services were to be held this morning for Silvio "Sam" Marella, a retired luggage 
manufacturer. He was 90 and lived in South Philadelphia.

Marella was owner and operator of M&A Luggage Co., 721 Cherry St., manufacturer of 
luggage and attache cases. He operated the firm for 16 years before retiring in 1972. 
His late wife was the former Rose Ziccardi.

Born in Italy, he came to the United States at age 17. For a number of years before 
starting his own business he worked in the luggage industry as a cutter, specializing in 
custom leather work.

He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Doto and Anna Michelini; a son, Silvio Jr.; 
seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Epiphany of Our Lord 
Church, 11th and Jackson streets. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Baily Road 
and Wycombe Avenue, Yeadon, Delaware County.
