Authorities released more information Monday about three crashes that killed four 
people on Southwest County roads over the weekend. 

A Lake Elsinore woman was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and 
felony driving under the influence following a 6:15 p.m. Saturday crash that killed a 
motorcyclist on Ortega Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

Sherri Ann Smith, 42, was driving west on the highway, about four miles west of Grand 
Avenue in Lake Elsinore when she rounded a curve and allowed her Chevrolet Blazer 
to cross the yellow lines and veer into eastbound traffic, a CHP release states. 

Kerry Suglia, 52, of Lake Elsinore was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on 
the highway and was hit head-on by the sport utility vehicle, officers said. He died at 
the scene, according to the Riverside County coroner's office, and Sheryl Suglia, 55, 
a passenger on the motorcycle, was hospitalized with major injuries. 

Smith was treated for moderate injuries at a local hospital before being arrested. She 
was then booked at Southwest Detention Center in French Valley and was released 
Sunday after she posted bond on $50,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said Monday.

FRENCH VALLEY -- A Lake Elsinore woman pleaded guilty Thursday to causing the 
death of a motorcyclist on Ortega Highway last summer. 

Sherri Ann Smith, 42, entered guilty pleas at Southwest Justice Center to one count 
each of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and driving under the 
influence causing injury. 

The fatal crash happened June 4, about four miles west of Grand Avenue. Smith's 
westbound Chevrolet Blazer crossed the yellow lines and veered into oncoming traffic. 

Kerry Suglia, 52, of Lake Elsinore, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound 
and was hit head-on by Smith's sport utility vehicle. Suglia died at the scene and 
Sheryl Suglia, 55, a passenger on the motorcycle, was hospitalized with major injuries. 

Judge James Warren ordered Smith, who is out of custody while on bail, to return to 
the French Valley courtroom on March 10 to be sentenced. 

Deputy District Attorney Dan Detienne said Smith faces a maximum sentence of two 
years in state prison. Had she not entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, 
Smith could have faced a maximum sentence of six years, eight months, the 
prosecutor added.
