February 20, 2017. Beloved mother and grandmother, friend and
confidante, died recently at age 86. An amazing woman who touched the
hearts and lives of so many, Eileen led an incredibly full and varied
life: Author, University of Pennsylvania historian, tai chi and
meditation practitioner, volunteer, and activist. She had a unique gift
for bringing peace to people's hearts and minds. She was a sensitive
listener who always had the right words no matter what the situation.
Deeply spiritual, self-aware, and continuously learning and becoming,
she shared her insights into life with all of her children and
grandchildren. Eileen was fond of saying, "When we understand one
another's stories, we under-stand everything a little better. Even
ourselves." She treated each day as a treasure and never lost her
child-like sense of wonderment about the world. Eileen was born on
January 1, 1931 in Wilkes Barre, PA, then moved to Philadelphia. She
graduated from Villa Maria academy and won a scholarship to Immaculata
College. She married the late William James Lynch in 1954, and they had
5 children: Mary Eileen, Jane, Bill, Jim, and Mickey. She lived in
Mount Airy until the children were grown, when she moved to Ambler, PA.
She was a prolific and award-winning author, published in local and
national newspapers and maga-zines. She knew more about Ben Franklin
then old Ben himself, as she was a gifted grant and speechwriter for
the University of Pennsylvania. Once retired, she stayed very busy,
continuing to write and volunteer. Her book, "We are Family,"
chronicled 150 years of her family's history and she was working on a
new children's book. She is survived by her children, their spouses,
and 12 grandchildren. In line with her final wishes, there will be no
funeral service. Dona-tions in her name to the Morris Arboretum are
welcomed.
