Note: ROBERT DE WELLE, son and heir, farmed the Honor of Haughley, Suffolk, alias
the Honor of the Constable, 1184-88. He is mentioned often in the Pipe Rolls at the
end of the 12th century as surety for the debts of Simon, Earl of Northampton; and he
was also himself in debt to the Jews and assumed the burden of his father's debts to
the Crown. He made grants to Greenfield Priory, to Bardney Abbey and to William
Ruffus called his kinsman; and he is mentioned in lawsuits, 1203. He married Maud.
He died before Michaelmas 1206. His widow survived him. [Complete Peerage
