DEATHS – Michael Quinton Romeo Dies; Funeral Services Announced.

Michael Quinton Romeo, 65, one of Birmingham’s most widely-known restauranteurs, 
died late last night at his Mountain Brook home.

Mr. Romeo, who lived at 3701 Old Leeds Road, Mountain Brook, had been ill for some 
time.

A native of Italy, he came to Birmingham while still a young child with his family.

WELL KNOWN in musical circles, Mr. Romeo was a charter member of the Musicians 
Union. He organized and led the Romeo Orchestra here for years.

Mr. Romeo opened the Romeo Restaurant here on 20th Street nearly 20 years ago 
and soon became one of the most popular restaurant men in the city.

For the past five years, Mr. Romeo operated his restaurant with a son, Alfred Romeo.

Mr. Romeo attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and was an active member of St. 
Paul’s Catholic Church until his death.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Virginia Theresa Romeo; two sons, Frank and Alfred, all 
of Birmingham; two brothers, A. M. Romeo, Birmingham and E. F. Romeo, of Gulf 
Shores, Ala.

The Rosary will be said at 8 tonight at Luquire Funeral Home by members of Knights of 
Columbus.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Luquire Chapel and at 9:30 a.m. at St. 
Paul’s Catholic Church. Father Edward O’Connell will officiate. Burial will be in 
Elmwood Cemetery.

ACTIVE PALLBEARERS will be nephews, Joe Cherry, Joe Naughton, Jimmy Baldone, 
Jake Bivano, Joe J. Fiore, Joe Schilleci, Frank Lovoy, Joe DeLeonard, Jr., and 
Anthony M. Romeo, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Maggio, Joseph Scotch, Gordon Abele, Paul 
Loscasio, A. D. Brown, George Moss, Marion Taccone, Frank McGowan, Ray 
Mulligan, Arthur Chase, Louis Pickard, Robert Macke, W. P. Pickard, Willie Sabatini,

NOTE: Michael was a musician who – with his wife Theresa – founded Romeo's Grill at 
421 20th Street South in Birmingham, Alabama around 1934. Romeo's was a popular 
Birmingham dining destination for over 60 years. All three locations were graced by 
beautiful cherry wood booths that he handcrafted for the original restaurant.
