SOUTHBRIDGE -- Ruth (Bennett) Spence, 88, of 308 South St., died Tuesday, April 8, 
on the 65th anniversary of her wedding, in Harrington Memorial Hospital. 

 Her husband, Paul W. Spence Sr., died in 1979. She leaves four sons, ''Pete'' W. 
Spence of Spencer, Keith C. Spence Sr. of Brookfield, William B. Spence of 
Sturbridge and Richard B. Spence of East Brookfield; four daughters, Sally H. Mead of 
the Three Rivers section of Palmer, Barbara Nase of Derry, N.H., Janice Byrer of 
Morgantown, W.Va., and Dr. RuthAnne Spence of Fayette, Maine; a brother, Harvey 
H. Bennett of Gilbertville; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great-great-
granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. A brother, William E. Bennett, and a 
sister, Eleanor Ray, predeceased her. She was born in Cambridge, daughter of Edward 
L. and Alta (Eaton) Bennett. She graduated in 1932 from Buckingham Brown School, 
and attended Wellesley College. 

 Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in East Brookfield Baptist 
Church, Main Street, East Brookfield. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery. Calling 
hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, Old West Brookfield 
Road, Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis 
Society, 415 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545; or to Catholic Charities 
Homemaker Program, 79 Elm St., Southbridge, MA 01550.
