1850 census, in Northern Liberties ward 1 with mother and brothers, no indication of a 
wife. Listed as upholsterer.
1860 census, with brother James, no indication of a wife. upholsterer
1870 census, in 13 Ward is a Joseph Morgan, age 50 (b 1820), wife Hannah age 45, 
son Joseph, age 5, son Samuel age 1, a woman Mary Palmer age 75, and a Maggie 
Torpie age 20. Shows up as JAMES Morgan !!! in a second census listing for the 13th 
Ward, with age as 52, bedding manufacturer, wife Hannah, son Joseph age 3, son 
Samuel age 9/12 (born in August), all b Pa, Torpey is a servant, and Mary Palmer, b in 
NJ, no occ or relationship given NOTICE comment on birthdate for Joseph Palmer 
Morgan under his entry ... given as 1866 ... which fits. Where did I get 1850? From an 
entry for another Joseph Morgan who married a Caroline?

1880 in Philadelphia, Pa. retired upholsterer. Wife misnamed as Anna, age 54. He age 
62. Joseph age 14. No Samuel (must have died). And servant Margaret Torpey still 
with them.
