 Isaac Wendell was a third cousin once removed of Oliver Wendell Holmes and a 
second cousin twice removed of John W. Philips, first Mayor of Boston. Anna Whittier 
was a sister of John Greenleaf Whittier's father and a third cousin once removed of 
John Quincy Adams.
	Elisha and Margaret were members of the Religious Society of Friends. After 
Elisha died, Margaret joined the Baptist Church. In 37 Bulletin of the Friends Historical 
Assn. 29 (1948) there is reprinted a letter from John Greenleaf Whittier, in which he is 
very critical of Margaret's change in religious persuasion.
