From "These Men Were Heroes Once: The Sixty-Ninth Indiana Volunteer Infantry": 
"Maule, Thomas -- Private, July 24, Company A. Residence: Wayne Township, Wayne 
County. At the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky, was in charge of an ambulance and was 
the only man to get his ambulance safely from the field; took sick with varioloid soon 
after the fight at Vicksburg, but recovered; then had chronic diarrhea and died at 
Young's Point, Louisiana, March 26, 1863. Son of Thomas Maule, Sr. buried on the 
banks of the Mississippi River."
