ALBERT MARKHAM, eldest son of William Markham, and grandson of John Markham, 
was born in Knoxville, Tioga county, December 27, 1850, and has always lived in his 
native place. He obtained a common school education and also attended Union 
Academy. After spending two years at the harness maker’s trade, he embarked in 
business for himself in 1873, and, with the exception of five years, has continued in 
that business up to the present. Mr. Markham married Mary Fisk, a daughter of 
Orlando and Catharine (Loomis) Fisk, of Knoxville, February 13, 1876, and has two 
children, Walter and Mabel. In politics, Mr. Markham is a Republican, and has filled 
various local offices. He is a member of the F. & A. M., the I. O. O. F., the K. O. T. M., 
and the I. O R. M. societies, in all of which he takes an active interest.

Albert Markham died at his home on South First Street, in the borough of Knoxville 
Sunday morning last, August 24, 1919, about 9 o'clock.  He was born in Knoxville 
December 29, 1850 and would have been 68 years old next December.  He was the 
son of William and Betsy Guile Markham and one of a family of four children, and the 
last one of the family.  His brothers and sisters were Maryann, wife of William Morse; 
Charles D. Markham, who resided at Potterbrook for a long time, and Saphrona, wife 
of Guy Kelts, all of whom preceded Albert to the grave.  He married Mary Fisk 
February 13th, 1876, and besides his widow he is survived by one son, Walter E. 
Markham, a mail clerk, and a daughter, Mabel K. Graves, at home.  Mr. Markham 
always resided in Knoxville, his birthplace.  He was a harness maker and for many 
years conducted a harness shop and horse furnishing goods store.  About ten years 
ago, on account of failing health he was forced to practically retire from work, but his 
shop was continued until the big fire here which destroyed his store and since that 
time he has been gradually failing and for about two years has been confined to his 
home and for the past year was an invalid, practically helpless.  Albert Markham was a 
good man, an excellent citizen, had the confidence of the people and held several 
town offices from time to time.  His long years of business life here made him many 
acquaintances and everybody was his friend, with but few, if any, enemies.  He was a 
member of the F. & A. M., the I. O. O. F. and the Elmira Grotto.  Funeral services will 
be held from the home this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Rev. L. D. Adams, 
pastor of the Knoxville M. E. Church, will officiate.  The burial will be in the Riverside 
cemetery at Knoxville in charge of the I. O. O. F.
