Arthur was educated at the Preparatory Meeting School of North Meeting, Friend 
Select, and Westtown Friends School, which he attended from 1884 until 1887.  He 
graduated from Haverford College in 1889, and earned an M.A. in 1890.
	From 1890 until 1899, Arthur was a salesman with R.D. Wood and Sons.  In 
1900 he and Walter P. Stokes purchased the Wabash Mills.  Arthur was president of 
Wabash Mills in Phila., Pa.  In 1926 he retired and sold his interest in the mill.
	From 1912 until 1919, Arthur and his brother Morris (1E9641) took over 
management of the Maulton farm, although they did not live there.
	In 1926 through 1928, Arthur took a scientific trip around the world.  In 1928 
he was a Research Fellow, in charge of the fern collection of the Academy of Natural 
Sciences in Phila., Pa.  He made many trips in pursuit of botany research.
	Arthur served on numerous alumni committees of Westtown Friends School, 
and was treasurer of the Westtown Old Scholars' Association, from 1909 until 1918.  
With his father and brother, he created Westtown's Mary Maule Leeds Room.
	Arthur was founder, and treasurer for 45 years, of the Philadelphia Botanical 
Club.  He was on the book committee of the Friends Free Library of Germantown, and 
in 1929 was elected a member of the Board of Apprentice Labor of Phila., Pa.  In 1935 
he was elected treasurer of that Board.  In 1904, Arthur was a founding member of the 
Friends Historical Society; he served as President from 1917 to 1919, and Councillor 
from 1919 to 1924.  From 1924 until he died, Arthur was on the Board of Directors of 
the Friends Historical Association.
	Arthur was an overseer of William Penn Charter School from 1915 until his 
death.  He was very active in the Society of Friends and was "brimming with merriment 
and useful knowledge".  He was interested in camping and canoeing, was a founding 
member of the Ozone Golf Club in 1901, and a founding member of the Four Way 
Lodge near Mays Landing, N.J.
	Arthur did not marry.
