John F. Hosch, 79, of Wolcott Ave, Middletown, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 
2008 at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with 
Alzheimer's Disease. He was the husband of Claire C. (Ring) Hosch. Born in Newport, 
July 29, 1929, he was a son of the late Delbert and Margaret (Hussey) Hosch. 

John was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Air 
Force and served for four years during the Korean War. John was employed at the 
Newport Naval Training Station for over 20 years before retiring in 1988. During the 
early 1960's he worked at the Middletown Fire Department. He had also been 
employed for 19 years at St. George's School, Touro Synagogue, and the Edward King 
Center. John, along with his wife Claire, was a long time parishioner of St. Mary's 
Church in Newport. 

Besides his wife of 48 years his leaves his daughter Jane Griggs and her husband Bill 
of Charlotte, NC; a son, John J. Hosch and his wife Rebecca of Exeter, RI; 4 
grandchildren, Adrianna and Olivia Hosch, and Margaret and Will Griggs; his brother 
Paul Hosch of Norfolk, CT; and 2 sisters, Fay Kerins and Ellen Lauzon both of 
Middletown. 

He was the brother of the late Joan Reiland. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 9:00am, at 
St. Mary's Church, Spring St., Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Ln, 
Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 14, from 4:00-7:00pm in 
the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI, 02840. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the CNA Scholarship 
Fund, c/o Village House, 70 Harrison Ave, Newport, RI, 02840 or to the Alzheimer's 
Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI, 02906. 

John's family would especially like to thank the staff of the Village House for their 
ongoing dedication, care, and support during the past few years.
