stories in many pprs on ancestry of a Leonard T or W Fristoe, age 77, in 1969 (so b 
1892) turned in after 40 years on the run after escaping Nev prison in 1923 (had been 
sentenced in 1920 (see census where a Margaret Friscoe and a 10 year old Leonard 
appear), where serving for murder of two sheriff's deputies. Used name Claude R. 
Willis, had son Claude R. Willis Jr, 38 (1931). So unclear who this is.
A year later he is freed from the sentence and released by Paul Laxalt. Son is 
described as Leonard T. Fristoe, Jr., took him home to a diary farm in New Mexico. His 
other son live(d) in Compton, Cal. Another article says son is Leonard W. Fristoe. 
Another article gives his name as Leonard Thomas Fristoe
But see obit in Hobbs Daily News-Sun 14 Mar 1976: "Eunice. Graveside services will 
be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Eunice Cemetery for Leonard William Fristoe, Sr., 83, 
who died yesterday in a Denver City hospital. Fristoe, who had been ill since 1968, 
had been living with his son, Leonard W. Fristoe, Jr., since 1970. He was a rancher. 
He is survived by another son, Claude R. Willis of Florence, Cal., and a brother Van 
Pelt Fristoe, of Lomela, Tex."
14 Dec 1969 Hobbs Daily News-Sun obit of his sister says he lives in Cal.
In 23 Nov 1969 article in Hobbs Daily News-Sun (saved to file) explains Leonard Jr 
thinks he is the son abandoned when 8 years old, of Leonard (T) Fristoe, 77, who 
escaped from Nevada State Prison 46 years ago, returned this past week. Fristoe, 
about 50, plans to visit the guy.

was in California, Mexico, then oil worker in Texas, claims to have killed his employer 
named Rowe (but nothing shows up in records of such a killing), then Canada as 
farmhand, Chicago and New York as mechanic, made $1m running bus line in Old 
Orchard Beach, Maine, the sold in 1945 to buy ranch in Wyo.
Had heart attack that left him partially paralyzed. Left Wyoming for Compton, driving a 
truck the entire way.
escaped Dec 15 1923, after serving 2.5 yrs of life term for murder of 2 members of a 
posse chasing him and another man for stealing a roadster, 2 rifles, 15 cartridge 
boxes, and salt pork from employer Union Land and Cattle Co.
