Eber L. Copeland passed away peacefully in his Olathe, Kansas, home Friday, April 
18, 2008. 


Eber was born in Galveston, Texas on December 4, 1926, to the Reverend Eber and 
Mary Copeland. He moved to southern California at a very early age where he lived 
most of his life. Shortly after graduating from Coachella Valley High School in 1944, he 
joined the U.S. Navy and was a Signalman during World War II serving primarily in the 
South Pacific. He attended the University of Southern California. On August 20, 1956, 
he married the love of his life, Jo Elizabeth Ransbarger in Indio, California. Eber and 
Jo were blessed with five children, twelve grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren. 


After retiring from a forty-year career with Bank of America, Eber and Jo moved to 
Olathe where he worked at Olathe East High School. He very much loved the students 
and staff of Olathe East and they were a source of tremendous joy for him. 


Eber was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; son, Paul; and sisters Moline Behrens and 
Gatha Lange. He is survived by his brother Paul of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; 
daughters Virginia Morgan of Healdsburg, California; Peggy Baldwin of Maui, Hawaii; 
Sarah Draper and son Michael Copeland both of Olathe, Kansas. 


Eber was a wonderful, kind, gentle and caring man who was a good friend loved by 
all. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and served our Lord 
through the Church of the Nazarene in various capacities throughout his life. He will 
be greatly missed, but his family is comforted knowing he is rejoicing in heaven with 
His Savior and wife and son.
