NEW LONDON John R. Osterland Sr., 73, of New London, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 
2006, at Stein Care Center in Sandusky. He was born May 5, 1933, in Parma, son of 
the late Wilbert W. Sr. and Agnes (Farquharson) Osterland. He moved to Fitchville in 
1947.He was a 1952 graduate of New London High School and was on the 1951 state 
championship football team. Mr. Osterland worked for Eastman Funeral Home in New 
London for several years, drove truck for several years and retired in 1992 from the 
Huron County Sheriffs Office after 27 years. He was a member of the New London 
Village Council for 11 years, the F.O.P. No. 185 of Huron County, the F&AM Gibson 
Lodge, the New London Eagles No. 2869, a social member of the New London 
American Legion Broom Wood Post 292 and a lifetime member of the NRA. He had 
been active with the New London Little League and Pony League.He is survived by 
his wife, Judy (Wisler) Osterland, whom he married in 1952; two sons, John R. 
Osterland, Jr. of Clarksfield and Mark Osterland of New London; three daughters and 
a son-in-law, Debra Farnsworth and Lee Schneiter, both of New London; and Vicky 
and Charlie Mack of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.He was 
preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbert and Fred Osterland; and a sister, Marian 
Willis.Friends may call 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Eastman Funeral Home, 
200 West Main St., New London, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, 
Sept. 18, 2006, with the Rev. Cathy Ake of New London United Methodist Church 
officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery.Memorials, if desired, may be 
given to the New London High School Alumni Association, 2275 Euclid Road, New 
London, Ohio 44851 or to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
