Joseph was a carpenter.
In his late teens, Joseph left Maryland and went to Richmond, Va., with his
brother Jesse (1EE4) and sister Lydia (1EE3).
Eliza's mother Mary Morris was the niece of Robert Morris, the financeer of the
American Revolution. Joseph and Eliza were members of the Religious Society of
Friends. Per "Gordons in Virginia" her father was John Morris, brother of Robert
Morris.
In 1823, Joseph took his family to Downingtown, Pa., where he kept a
turning and spinning wheel manufacturing business. After Eliza died, Joseph and his
son returned to Richmond, Va.

1834 reports of Henrico MM indicate that Joseph and Thomas Mifflin Ladd (in the
Thomas 1E6 branch) had departed from the principlesof Friends in terms of
attendance. Disowned 10 Nov 1834
