Margaret Matlack Nowell, 92, of Rose Tree, a retired teacher and author, died Jan. 11 
at her home. 

Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Nowell moved to Rose Tree in 1926. 

She attended Goucher College and later worked for Curtis Publishing Co. She wrote 
for several magazines, including Better Homes and Garden. She later wrote a romantic 
novel, Sergeant Jane. 

In the 1930s, she began working at the School in Rose Valley as a secretary. She 
later taught the oldest group of children at the school for about 35 years. 

She was an active member of the Media Fellowship House and the Christ Church in 
Media, where she belonged to several church groups. 

Mrs. Nowell enjoyed playing bridge, painting, writing and game shows. 

She was the widow of Foster Nowell Sr. 

She is survived by three sons, Foster Jr., Dr. Peter C.and Samuel M.; 10 
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ellen Davis. 

The memorial service was Jan. 20 at Christ Episcopal Church in Media. Interment was 
private. 

Funeral arrangements were by the Cavanagh-Patterson Funeral Home in Media.
