Private services were held for retired Lake County Circuit Judge LaVerne A. Dixon, 94, 
of Lake Forest who died Aug. 10 at Lake Forest hospital. 

 A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gurnee Community Church, 
4555 Grand Avenue. 

 Judge Dixon was a former teacher, school principal and FBI agent before graduating 
from law school. He was appointed a county judge in 1962 and retired in 1976, 
spending five of those years as chief circuit judge. 

 Dixon was a descendant of a pioneer Gurnee family. He graduated from Warren 
Township High School in Gurnee, Lake Forest College and later graduated from John 
Marshall Law School in Chicago. He served as principal of the Lake Villa Grade 
School and later taught at Warren Township High School. 

 During World War II he served four years as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of 
Investigation. 

 Judge Dixon is survived by his widow Ruth, whom he met while teaching at Warren, 
two sons, Lowell of Lake Forest and John of Chicago. Former Gurnee Mayor Richard 
Welton is a nephew. 

 Private services were held at the Warren Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of 
flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Gurnee Community Church.
