Silvio was the fifth of eight children born to Carolina and Remo Sabaini. Two of his
brothers died from influenza in the great epidemic of 1918: Mario, age 2 yrs and
Wilson, age 3 mos. They died just a few days apart. Silvio was a strong man with a
compelling and persuasive personality. He became a salesman for Garofalo Company,
Chicago, IL, a wholesale grocery company. He was so successful that even in the
shadow of The Great Depression he earned enough money to support his family, buy a
two flat brick home, pay it off in five years and start his own business. With his brother
Pomp, he opened Sabaini Brothers Motor Sales at 121st and S. Western Av, Blue
Island, IL, a Hudson dealership, in 1947. It was a successful business until American
Motors decided to stop manufacturing the Hudson. A few years later, he and Pomp
opened a Pontiac dealership on Chicago and Western Aves in Chicago. The name
Sabaini Pontiac was changed to Star Pontiac shortly after it opened. It also was
successful, however Silvio's heart problems forced them to close that dealership. With
all of this,Silvio's greatest attribute was his devoted love for his family. He took care
of his mother Carolina the rest of her life. His brothers and sisters were his best friends
and social circle. He was a good father, who loved his children more than life and
continued to provide for them even after his death. After several heart attacks, he
underwent triple heart bypass surgery. The day before he entered the hospital, he gave
his life to the Lord. He felt much better after this surgery and began walking, then
running at least five miles daily. He continued to run until, at age 74 he felt too weak
to continue this activity. After feeling faint, he went to the hospital where he was
diagnosed with terminal esophageal cancer. He went home to be with his Lord 10
months later. I am his daughter and his first born and I love him and miss him more
than I could ever say.
