James Philo Ault born November 22, 1902 in Hemlock. He never married. He lived in 
Hemlock at his parent's residence for many years. Jim was drafted in the Army 
(11/1942), where he served as an M.P. for about six months during World War II, but 
because of vision problems he was honorably discharged early. Documents found at 
the Michigan State Archives included a Michigan Veteran's Facility History and 
Physical Examination showing that Jim was admitted to the facility on May 21, 1973. It 
also stated that Jim had never had any surgeries and was in good health at the time of 
admission except for a loss of balance. Apparently he had fallen several times in the 
last three years and once had broken some ribs which took a while to heal. He was 
65" tall, medium build and weighed 110 lbs. The document stated the he had been a 
gas station attendant several years and was very active in the community especially 
with children. Jim loved playing ball with the local children's ball team and the children 
loved having him around. Jim died September 3, 1980, at the Veterans Hospital in 
Grand Rapids, Michigan, of what was listed as acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage. He
