Clarence Ervin Ault (Cy) born August 11, 1906, in Hemlock. He married Martha (Babe) 

Kwiatkowski (Koski) Gilles DeBar on July 6,1951, in Saginaw. Babe was born April 21, 
1909, in Saginaw, Michigan. On March 17, 1928, she married Jacob Gilles, a glass 
worker, and then on September 2, 1944, she married Walter H. DeBar, a boat builder. 
Babe was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and had one daughter, by her first 
marriage, Jacqueline Ann Gilles (Mrs. Ronald Bullard ) who was born May 28, 1929 
and died September 10, 1989. Babe died on May 28, 1979 of a heart attack which 
had been preceded by chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. Cy was employed by 
the State of Michigan, Department of Conservation until his retirement in 1963. He 
was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Infantry. Cy was a member of The 
Haley Brothers Chapter of the C.A.V. and also VFW post 1566. 


I remember the summers we spent up at the Tawas City Park where Cy was the park 
ranger. It was a favorite time in my life. Cy had the first television set I remember 
seeing, which showed primarily boxing matches at the time. I remember feeling special 
that my Uncle Cy was the park ranger. 


Cy had quite a collection of Native American arrowheads and various stone tools that 
he 

and "the Ault boys" found and saved over the years. Cy and his son-in-law, Ronald 
Bullard (b. November 5, 1928) built a display case for the collection and after Cy's 
death Ron donated it to the Mt. Pleasant Chippewa Indian Museum in Mt. Pleasant, 
Michigan. Cy didn't have any children of his own and became quite close to his son-
in-law, Ron. Ron is retired from Sears department store in Saginaw and is now residing 
in Indian River, Michigan. 


Cy passed away August 26, 1978 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Saginaw, 
Michigan, at the age of 72 years. He had lived many years with emphysema. Cy and 
Babe are buried in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw, Michigan.
