John was an active and intelligent farmer. He also was a school director. John was 
prominent and respected in the community and was many times called upon to 
arbitrate disputes.
Susan's first cousin Lydia Brown Clark married John's brother Nathan Maule (1E754).
	Susan had a keen intellect, a veneration for old things, was a great reader, 
was interested in astronomy, civic affairs, and community life, and was much involved 
in Friends Meeting. She was capable of inspiring her children and others to see the 
best things for all people. She was on the committee to select the location for, and 
establish, George School.
	John and Susan were members of Bart Monthly Meeting of Friends. John and 
Susan lived in Kennett Square, Pa., after their marriage. In 1860, they moved to Oak 
Hill in Lancaster Co., Pa. In 1864 they moved to Collins, near Quarryville, in Lancaster 
Co., Pa., purchasing a farm on which their grandson Richard Maule (1E75771) lives.
