1981 book:
George began farming for himself in 1885 in Doe Run, West Marlborough Twp., 
Chester Co., Pa. In 1888, he moved to a 108-acre farm in Gum Tree, Highland Twp., 
Chester Co., Pa. George also was quite expert in erecting buildings and repairing 
machinery and furniture. George also was a fine taxidermist.
	George was an active member of Doe Run Farmers Club. He was very 
involved in the work of Friends Meeting, was on the committee in charge of Jeanes 
Hospital, and was a director of Parkesburg Bank. George held the offices of 
supervisor, justice of the peace, auditor, and school director for Highland Twp., 
Chester Co., Pa. He served on the committee of George School from the early 1900's 
until 1931.
Clara's sister Emma married George's uncle Ebenezer Maule (1E759). Elizabeth Harmer 
Lewis was closely related to Samuel Lewis (1E582) and Edmund Lewis (1E5281).
	Clara attended Cooperville School, and Hannah Cope's Boarding School in 
Toughkenamon, Chester Co., Pa. She had natural artistic ability, and was a good 
gardener and nurse. Clara was a member of Fallowfield Monthly Meeting of Friends for 
almost fifty years, and she was an active member of Doe Run Farmers Club. She was 
secretary of the West Marlborough Branch of the Chester County Children's Aid 
Society. Although Clara was of a retiring nature, those who knew her best realized her 
sincere interest in her home and untiring devotion to the members of her household.
